2.It wasn't for a birthday, but when my best friend got married, I gave her one of the toys she used to play with at my house when we were little. It was a little tiny bear. I had a little rabbit, and we used to make clothes and toys for them in grade school. I'd saved most of the things she made, like a little book and clothes and a little bed, and gave them all to her.

5.More than buying, I always like to make something special for the person like a personalised OOAK card, a painting, a cake or a colourful banner, apart from getting one of two gifts that the person really wants or would love. There have been occasions where I have gone all the way for someone and I have enjoyed it so much. Sure, buying stuff is always fun and all but I like to take a moment and show the person how much I appreciate them and what they mean to me, because bdays are all about celebrating the birth of someone dear to you.

19.Last year I gave my beau a mobile from the Museum of Modern Art - and flew to Germany to give it to him. But the present wasn't shipped from the Museum in time, so I had to have the catsitter ship it to Germany after the fact. He did, but he thought "mobile" meant "mobile phone" so he tripled the value of the gift. It got stuck in customs. My fiance almost had to spend a day going down to the customs office (in a different town) to retrieve the present. I also had to tell him exactly what it was and how much it cost...it was very embarrassing.

28.I bought my mother a crystal ball one year. Although I don't really believe in the magical properties of it, it was a really suitable gift because she had just ended a 22 year relationship and it seemed like a meaningful gift, her future full of promise. Plus it is beautiful and catches the light. I am also a big fan of handmade gifts like home-knit scraves, etc... I give those to people I care a lot about- people I want to invest a lot of care and time in.
