I'm guessing that the cure was just a mutant gene suppressor in actuality. Since Eric Lehnsherr (Magneto) is an Alpha (sorry, he's not an Omega just a peak Alpha) that is why you see him lifting the chess piece, because his powers are returning. If the movie were to stay true to the comics you would see Henry McCoy betray the X-men after Charles died, Eric become the head of the X-men, Logan lose one of his hands and Scott lose one of his eyes after the two of them clashed, Apocalypse try to take over the world, Rogue marry Eric, and well, I might as well stop because there's no way that's gonna happen in the movie.
